Palau and Truk

July 6, 2017 to July 23, 2017

Palau offers an incredibly high diversity of marine species and its pristine marine habitats support some of the world’s richest populations of corals, fish and other invertebrates.

In February 1944, the United States launched Operation Hailstorm against a Japanese fleet which resulted in over 40 ships lost in Truk Lagoon.

To say these are 2 of the best dives areas in the world is an understatement.   We will start with a week at the Palau Royal and dive with Sam’s Tours for 5 days of dives including Blue Corner, Jellyfish Lake, Chandelier Cave, German Cut plus 2 dives at Peleliu plus the land tour.

The kelp forests of Southern California have long been a Utah diver's playground.  Only a 10 hour drive or 1.5 hour flight, Southern California's waters abound with life.  Located less than 26 miles offshore from Los Angeles is Catalina Island.

Catalina Island is one of the Channel Islands and is the only one with a permanent population.  Avalon is a picturesque town that is the main stop when visiting Catalina.  You can shore dive Casino Point Marine Park or take a boat to visit more sites around the island.  Read more about Catalina

We all want what we can’t have, right?  Cuba has long intrigued travelers and divers since it is only 90 miles from Key West.  A hardy few have risked going through Canada or Mexico but finally we get to visit legally under the Professional Research visa.

We fly direct into Havana and transfer to the far south western tip of the island to a little resort called Maria La Gorda..  We will dive 2 tanks each day for 4 days as we explore the reefs and walls directly off shore (no long boat rides!)   All meals are included at Maria La Gorda.
