About the Course

You’ve just surface from your third dive of the day.

You and your buddy have spent almost three hours underwater today, starting with a deep wreck and moving on to a couple of reefs.

Seas are calm and the sky is blue. What better day to be out exploring the underwater world. As you and your buddy start breaking down your scuba kit, your buddy mentions that his elbow hurts and that he has a rash on his stomach. What do you do?

Did your buddy just bump his elbow? Is the rash just a reaction to something? Or is it something more serious? Could it be decompression illness?

Your buddy is showing symptoms of decompression illness or it could be something else. Either way, first aid is clear: 100% emergency oxygen and activate your emergency plan.

Emergency Oxygen is the standard of care for an injured diver.

How do you learn how to provide emergency oxygen? Easy, with the PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider Specialty course.

The PADI Emergency Oxygen course is open to divers and non-divers. There is no age requirement or experience requirement. Why? Simple, our friends, families, boat captains, life guards and others may be the first people to recognize a problem and provide emergency care.

You’ll learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of decompression illness. You’ll practice providing emergency oxygen to an injured diver and provide additional emergency care as needed. This is a hands-on course: you’ll really be setting up emergency oxygen equipment and providing emergency oxygen to one of your classmates.

The PADI Emergency Oxygen course also integrates with the PADI Rescue Diver Course and can substitute for one of the training exercises. In the PADI Rescue Diver course, you’ll also learn to develop an emergency plan for your diving activities. Additionally, since Emergency Oxygen is a PADI Specialty Diver course, it counts towards your PADI Master Scuba Diver Rating.
